Chelsea v Basel Tip

The Swiss champions have scored in all six of their recent clashes with English opponents.

The bookies have gone overboard with the extent to which they have made Chelsea favourites to beat Basel on Wednesday night with the Blues nothing longer than 1/3 (WilliamHill) to take three points.

This is disrespectful to what the Swiss champions have achieved in Europe over the past two seasons. In the 2011-12 Champions League they drew 3-3 at Old Trafford before beating Man Utd 2-1 at home to progress to the knockout stages at the expense of the English giants.

Last term Basle made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League where they were only stopped by Chelsea after 1-2 and 3-1 defeats. Before that Tottenham were knocked out in the quarter-finals after a pair of 2-2 draws led to a penalty shoot-out.

So the Stamford Bridge club were too strong for the Swiss team a few months ago but what we can see is that the Super League outfit have found the net in all six of these recent clashes with top English opponents. StanJames go a best price evens on both teams to score in this one and that looks generous given recent history.
