Championship Double

This double gives Palace fans two reasons to be cheerful. Firstly lets concentrate on their own fixture away to Doncaster. Rock bottom of the Championship it looks like a long season for Sean O’Driscoll, that is assuming he lasts that long. One point from seven games was swiftly followed by the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’ from the chairman. Remarkably O’Driscoll is the longest serving manager in the Championship, with five years at the helm.

Having punched above their weight for numerous years, things have gone horribly wrong. Two goals in seven games is a poor return and they looked toothless in their defeat at Reading last Saturday.

Crystal Palace have started the season well and have reasons for optimism as their academy continues to produce bright young talent. With the like of Zaha, Scannell, and Ambrose, they also have goals in the side. The defeat at home to table topping Middlesbrough can be counted as unlucky, with Jermaine Easter crashing a shot against the bar when finally getting past the inspired Boro goalkeeper. At 2/1 (Victor Chandler) for an away win Palace are excellent value.

The second reason for Palace fans to be cheerful is my predicted defeat for Millwall. Although solid in defence the Lions have been tame in attack. Without a goal in four league games, and coming off a midweek thrashing, confidence is low in the team. The same can’t be said of Derby who produced a stirring comeback to beat Nottingham Forest, playing 85minutes with ten men. Sitting fourth in the league, the Rams have started the season well. With a spring in their step they can record a sixth win at 13/8 (Victor Chandler).
