Champions League: Chelsea v United

Wayne Rooney

United have been miserly in the Champions League and more of the same will suit them.

Poor old ITV1 viewers haven’t exactly had the pick of the games recently. The Champions League knockout stage promises drama and excitement but terrestrial viewers have been bored with consecutive goalless draws.

TV executives are desperate for some razzmatazz but sport has an uncanny knack of kicking people when they are down. Only eleven goals have been scored in the eight games involving United and that is the problem.

Aware of his team’s limitations Sir Alex Ferguson has focused on not getting beaten. Judging by results to date, this attitude has served him well. In four away games United are yet to concede a goal and against a misfiring Fernando Torres I can’t see that changing. If there is to be a winner United are just as likely as Chelsea to find it.

If Man Utd win the match, Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st/Last goalscorer, Correct Score & Scorecast singles on the match. With a bore draw the most likely outcome, we also have the insurance of getting our money back if United sneak a winner. With our downside limited, we can cheer on the 0-0 scorecast even if ITV don’t.
