Bournemouth V Wigan Tip

A team who haven’t lost in three months should be fancied to cause an ‘upset’ against a club with one win in 10 in all competitions.

An obvious port of call for a potential FA Cup upset on Tuesday night is the Goldsands Stadium where Bournemouth entertain Wigan Athletic in a third round replay. The hosts, unbeaten in 18 matches (W12 D6) since Eddie Howe returned to the seaside, are far too long at best odds of 15/8 with StanJames.

The bookies have priced this fixture up purely on a divisional basis - Premier League versus League One - but none of that really matters when you consider that Roberto Martinez will have the reserves out in force. “This replay gives us another chance to see the progression of the young players at the club and hand an opportunity to players who need minutes on the pitch,” he said.

The Cherries more than held their own in the first match at the DW Stadium where the Latics relied on a late leveller just to secure a 1-1 draw. On that occasion Bournemouth were missing top goalscorer Lewis Grabban but he returned to action with a full 90 minutes on Saturday. The 25-year-old striker could prove the difference this time.
