Bayern Munich v Juventus Tip

Bayern are heavily odds-on but they lost 2-0 at home to Arsenal in the last round.

In one of the most eagerly awaited of the Champions League quarter-final ties, the runaway leaders of the Bundesliga face Serie A’s finest. It should be a match to savour.

Bayern Munich are the overwhelming favourites for the first leg at the Allianz Arena (4/6 PaddyPower) but I can’t help thinking that Juventus are under-estimated at your peril. Admittedly, Germany’s finest blew Hamburg away 9-2 at the weekend, but being flat-track bullies domestically is no guarantee of success on the elite stage.

The Italians are priced up at appealing odds of 15/4 (BetVictor) to win in the ‘draw no bet’ market. That means we have the insurance of knowing that we get our money back if the first leg ends level. So we only lose if Juventus lose; something the Turin club haven’t done away from home in European competition for over three years.

In the group stages Juventus drew 2-2 at Chelsea then went on to beat Shakhtar Donetsk away in the final round of fixtures. They also had a resounding 3-0 victory at Celtic Park in the round of 16.

That impressive travelling form is almost always evident domestically as well. Antonio Conte’s men arrive off the back of a 2-1 triumph over Inter Milan at the San Siro on Saturday that ensures they remain very much the top dogs in Italy.

To some extent the big question here is how does Serie A stack up in comparison to the Bundesliga? We will have a better answer to that question soon but I can’t believe Juventus really have as little hope as the odds here imply.
