Arsenal v Manchester City Tip

RVP: A supreme season

The top striker in the country is better than evens money to score at anytime, and at home. A rare treat.

It’s been a while since Robin Van Persie was longer than evens money to score at any anytime in an Arsenal home match and I’m more than happy to take advantage on Sunday.

Perhaps the bookies have noticed that the Dutchman’s gone three matches without goal - hardly a cause for concern. The very fact that this is the first time he’s endured a ‘drought’ of that length all season is remarkable in itself! With 26 strikes in 31 league games, we’re still talking about the standout striker in English football by some distance. In fact, he’s the season’s star performer full stop; odds of 1/6 (PaddyPower) on Van Persie picking up the PFA Player of the Year award are proof of that.

A best price of 5/4 (StanJames) on the 28-year-old finding the net gives Manchester City too much respect. The Emirates (and Highbury before that ) is an unhappy hunting ground for a side who have gone 26 league matches without a win at Arsenal.

One win in four has left Mancini’s title dreams hanging by a thread. The pressure has told. The Gunners have been getting better with a run of six consecutive victories in all competitions only ending with the surprise setback at QPR last week. That result showed they can still slip-up so I’ll resist backing them at 6/4 (Boylesports). At a very similar price I’m much happier to take the bet on Van Persie doing what he does best.
