Arsenal v Dortmund: First Goalscorer Tip

Gotze has three in his last two.

This rising star of German football is making waves with several key goals in the Bundesliga of late.

For a sneaky second tip on the Arsenal game I recommend a lovely little value bet on Mario Gotze in the first goalscorer market - a best price 14/1 (Totesport). Robin Van Persie (9/2 WilliamHill) is the obvious threat in this market but the odds make this a worthwhile investment regardless.

Mario Gotze is the latest youngster destined for stardom in the German national team. At 19-years-old he has already become the joint-youngest ever goalscorer for his country after he netted against Brazil back in August. A few weeks later he grabbed a second international strike against Austria in a Euro 2012 qualifier.

The Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder may create as much as he scores, but recent signs suggest that he is developing a more consistent eye for goal. The playmaker scored the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena - he may just be a man for the big occasion. In the Bundesliga game before that, Gotze bagged a double against Wolfsburg.

The talent is clearly there, and he could follow in the footsteps of someone like Ronaldo by suddenly realising that he can score a hatful himself. In Germany, many believe he has a bigger future than 2010 World Cup star Mesut Ozil. That remains to be seen, but certainly the British bookies and the British public aren’t yet up to speed on this hot prospect. That means we are getting great value at 14/1 (Totesport) on Gotze breaking the deadlock against Arsenal.
