20th Oct 2013 | Champions League

Arsenal v Borussia Dortmund Tip

It ought to be a classic between two of the most eye-catching teams in world football.

This will be one of the most eagerly anticipated clashes of the groups stages as the current leaders of the English Premier League take on last year’s Champions League finalists.

As a point of reference it’s hard not to think of how Bayern Munich outclassed Manchester City three weeks ago, and wonder if the Bundesliga will rule supreme here as well. It’s certainly enough to make best odds of 21/10 (PaddyPower) on a Dortmund win look generous, but actually I think the draw is most likely at the even longer price of 13/5 with Skybet.

Arsenal can hold their own while they are playing with a greater spark and confidence than City were capable of at the Etihad, while Jurgen Klopp’s men are just a shade below the level of Bayern.

In fact, Tuesday’s opponents seem to be a perfect match for each other. The Gunners have taken 19 points from seven domestic league matches after losing their opener. They have also taken maximum points from their two European outings to date.

Meanwhile Dortmund have amassed 22 points from nine Bundesliga games (W7 D1 L1), scoring 22 times in the process. They actually slipped up in Napoli on Gameweek 1 of this competition but stormed back with a 3-0 victory over Marseilles at Westfalenstadion.

I can’t choose between these sides at this moment in time and as is so often the case the draw is the long shot option when really it’s probably most likely.
