Wimbledon Tip: Ferrer v Murray

Ferrer: Looking better on grass.

Could this be the end of the road for Murray against the man known as 'The Wall?'

However well Andy Murray is playing at Wimbledon so far this year, none of his performances have been better than David Ferrer’s superb display in the fourth round against Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentinian, the world number nine, was soundly beaten 6-3 6-2 6-3.

It was a performance that dispelled any notion that Ferrer can’t play on grass and makes a mockery of the 2/1 (Boylesports) available on the Spaniard to beat the British number one. It’s understandable that he should be a slight underdog, but the disparity in price is just too great to turn down.

The 30-year-old also has the psychological advantage of having won the last two showdowns between the pair. Ferrer was expected to triumph over Murray at Roland Garros, and duly did so, but he also won in straight sets in Shanghai before that.

The man regarded as the best returner in the men’s game by Roger Federer could frustrate Andy Murray in front of an expectant Centre Court crowd. The Scot may find the need to hit a high percentage of winners too much to handle as the Spaniard wears him down.
