Newmarket Tips: Gabrial’s Gift
Well handicapped and better than his recent efforts; poorly drawn at Haydock and 7f not his best distance.
The 2.20 Newmarket is a race for grey horses only and although it might seem like a novelty the £12,450 first prize means trainers take it seriously.
Gabrial’s Gift was a decent horse a couple of years ago but has since plummeted down the handicap and is now 14lbs below his peak. He looks a winner in waiting as soon as he regains his form.
Last time out he ran no sort of race at Haydock when backed into favourite; he got a poor start and raced alone against the nearside rail. It probably wasn’t the place to be so we can draw a line through that run.
A couple of spins at 7f didn’t show him in his best light either but earlier in the season he was a comfortable winner over 6f at Chepstow and a repeat of that run should see him go close at 16/1 (Betfred) .
