Haydock Tip: Walvis Bay

Looked a useful horse last year and ran well from a poor draw last time out.

The favourite looks vulnerable in the 1.40 at Haydock. With a guaranteed strong pace Beauty Pageant might get stretched early on and the race won’t be run to suit her.

Last time out Oldjoesaid ran a good race at Thirsk and he should go close again. I have the nagging feeling that it was a race he should have won and he might come up short again. The horse to take out of that race was Walvis Bay.

Drawn badly in stall one, he showed up for a long way on what was he first race for two months. His other two races this year have been over six furlongs, when his optimal trip is five. I don’t think we’ve seen anywhere near the best of this horse.

Last year he was running in some top handicaps, finishing a creditable seventh in a 0-108 sprint at York. He is a useful prospect and this is the first time he’s had ideal conditions all year.
