Eclipse Tips: War Command

His performance at Royal Ascot got slightly lost behind the magnificence of Kingman but he’s starting to build on the promise he showed last season.

The outstanding performance at Royal Ascot was Kingman’s win in the St. James’s Palace Stakes. Not only was it visually impressive but it was backed up by evidence on the clock.

Simon Rowlands of Timeform has written an excellent sectional debrief of the race so I won’t regurgitate his work but it’s worth highlighting the performance in defeat of War Command.

He started the season as a realistic 2000 Guineas candidate and although he struggled in the Newmarket classic, he bounced back to form at Ascot, running the final 2f in a rapid 22.65s.

War Command has a turn of foot that could worry The Fugue and although a step up to 10f is a leap into the unknown at 12/1 (BetVictor) he is worth the risk.
