Neptune Novices’ Tips: Messire Des Obeaux

Neon Wolf is the hot favourite for the Neptune (1.30) but despite his obvious talent he is opposable. Two of his wins came on soft ground (it should be quicker at Cheltenham) and none of his victories resulted in outstanding speed figures. Perhaps in a better race he will show his class but with Sky Bet refunding all losing bets as a free bet up to £20 we can afford to be more speculative.

Messire Des Obeaux lost his last race at Huntingdon but he was only beaten 0.25 lengths, carrying an 8lbs penalty. His trainer said the race was just a prep for the Neptune and that the sharp track wouldn’t have suited him either.

Based on his wins at Sandown and Newbury he must have a big chance in the Neptune. He beat Ballyandy at the former and is a Grade 1 winner at the latter.

At last year’s Festival, he finished seventh in the Fred Winter and there are no concerns over the track or trip. Back him at 9/1 with Sky Bet and if he loses get your money back as a free bet up to £20.
