Doncaster Tip: Even Stevens

One of the few prominent runners to finish well having raced into a strong headwind at Haydock last week.

A prolific scorer on the all weather, with five wins from six races, Even Stevens looks like he is about to translate that form to the turf.

After a lacklustre start to season, the three-year-old bounced back to form with a second place at Haydock. Forced to race into a strong headwind he was one of the few horses all day that cut out the pace and still hung around to contest the finish. He clocked a fast time, one that can be upgraded in light of the conditions.

This isn’t the first time Even Stevens has shown blistering pace. On the 22nd March at Southwell he recorded a time that I rated good enough to win a class two sprint. Off a mark of 77 he is racing in a class four handicap; if that last performance wasn’t a fluke then he is easily capable of winning today.
