Catterick Races Tip: Desert Strike

Needs a fast run five furlong in a small field. Has both tonight.

This will now be the third time we have tipped Desert Strike. He is still ahead of the handicapper and should win the 7.50 at Catterick. He could not quite reel in the winner last time out, but a second place shows he is holding his form. With a bit better luck he could have won any, if not all of his last four races. A combination of poor draws, interference or track bias have worked against him.

To win he needs a quickly run five furlongs where the leaders tire and come back to him at the finish. Catterick this evening is the perfect venue. With the likes of Taurus Twins, Bronze Beau, Mr Wolf and Verinco, the race should be run at a furious gallop.

There is no doubt Desert Strike is a tricky ride but any suggestions that he is ungenuine are false; he has already won three times in 2011. The horse’s running style does however find trouble, to be at his best he needs a small field to plot his way to the front. Since joining Alan McCabe his record over five furlongs in fields of 12 or less reads: 6111322312. The sixth place being on his debut for the yard. Tonight he races over five furlongs with a maximum field of nine.
