Ascot Tips: Hawkesbury
Ran a 33.6s closing sectional at Kempton, amongst the fastest sectionals ever recorded at the track.
The 4.05 Ascot is a high quality sprint and Hawkesbury is one of the potential superstars in the field.
Last time out at Kempton (14 January) he covered the final 3f in 33.6s, amongst the fastest closing sectionals I have ever recorded at the track.
Sectionals below 34s are rare at Kempton and often caused by a pedestrian early gallop. This wasn’t the case in Hawkesbury’s race. The finishing speed was 105.6% of the average race speed and although the early gallop wasn’t strong, it wasn’t slow either.
The speed rating was good and overall the impression on the clock was of a smart sprinter in the making.
There are probably several useful types in the field but Hawkesbury is underrated in the market at 8/1 (William Hill).
