WGC Cadillac Championship Tips: Jason Day

Three top-10s in four starts this season. Huge price considering he was golf’s next 'big thing' back in 2011.

Betting has the habit of making one look silly on a regular basis and after eulogising about Jason Day’s new found focus, he failed to start the Honda Classic last week.

The official line was illness but after the WGC Match Play Ian Poulter tweeted, “I bet Jason Day doesn’t play Honda this week now because he feels exhausted. 18 holes less and Honda might have had him in the field.”

I’m happy to give Jason Day the benefit of the doubt, considering Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan and Ian Poulter all took the week off after the WGC Match Play.

The 25-year-old Australian has enjoyed a productive start to the season with three top-10s in just four events and looks capable of fulfilling his potential. Last year he finished a solid T20 at Doral, with a 67 on Friday the highlight of his week.

He has all the attributes to win at the highest level and at 50/1 (Stan James) looks a cracking each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
