Watney Claims WGC Cadillac Championship
Nick Watney shot a final round 67 to win in Florida by two shots from Dustin Johnson.
American Nick Watney claimed the biggest win of his career, courtesy of a final hole birdie that left overnight leader Dustin Johnson with just too much to do. A final score of 16 under par saw Watney go one better than his runner-up spot in 2009; on that occasion he found the water on the last to gift victory to Phil Mickleson. This time he rolled in a 10-footer on 18 to leave Johnson ruing a mediocre final round of 71.
Anders Hansen and Francesco Molinari finished one shot further back with in-form Luke Donald, Adam Scott and Matt Kuchar all on -12. Tiger Woods was never in any danger of ending his victory drought at Doral, but at least a closing round of 66 restored some pride for the stuttering former number one.
