Travelers Championship Golf Tips: Webb Simpson

Webb Simpson

A great ball striker, he will give himself plenty of birdie opportunities. If he can take them, he could be dangerous.

One of the new breed of American golfers, Webb Simpson is having his breakout year on tour. With two second places already, he can go one better in Connecticut.

After making the US Open cut on the line, Simpson finished with an excellent 66-70 over the weekend to surge into a tie for 14th. On the back of a T7 at the Memorial this young golfer from North Carolina is finding his best form.

According to the PGA tour statistics, Simpson is ranked number one for all-around golf. An index that comprises, driving, putting and scoring. It isn’t fool proof, but a good indication of how well he is playing.

As he proved at Congressional his real strength lies in his ball striking. Reminiscent of how Luke Donald plays the game, Simpson is all about hitting greens and giving himself chances.  He ranks 17th in GIRs and 7th for birdie average. The 25-year-old is also blessed with an excellent short game, so shouldn’t give too many of those shots back.

A 33/1, back him each way and get ¼ odds for a top five finish.

*If your player finishes 2nd to Nick Watney or Hunter Mahan in this week’s Travelers Championship Betfred will refund all losing singles on the outright market.
