The Golf Outsider: Castello Masters

A Dry Week Forecast

Fresh from tipping Tom Lewis at 160.0 our longshots expert is back with three picks for the Castello Masters.

This week is the fourth edition of the Castello Masters hosted at the Club De Campo Del Mediterraneo. With players trying to secure their tour cards for next year it should be a tense and fascinating tournament. In the betting, Sergio Garcia is the 9/1 favourite, short considering he has not won for three years. Thankfully his price creates some cracking value on the outsiders.

Castello Masters Selections

Shane Lowry is building up a nice head of steam with his last three finishes reading T64-T45-T16. This is a very similar profile to when he peaked with top five finishes at the Iberdrola Open and the BMW PGA Championship. The first of those was in Spain and helps gloss over the fact that he has little course form.

Recommended Bet: Shane Lowry @ 130.0

David Drysdale played well in the first two rounds last week and this is a sign he can challenge strongly over four against a weaker field. He traditionally plays well in Spain with a third at the Madrid Masters and a second at the Open de Andalucia. He also has course form in the Castello Masters, with a 30th and 18th placed finish. He is just about safe at 109th in the Race to Dubai but could do with one more big performance to guarantee his card.
Recommended Bet: David Drysdale @ 270.0

I tipped up Gary Boyd last week but I think my timing was slightly out, so for this reason I’m going to have to put him up again. He finished 3rd here on his first attempt, and while he has missed two cuts in a row, that didn’t stop him finishing 2nd at the BMW Italian Open earlier in the year. It also means we are getting a nicely inflated price about the talented Englishman.

Recommended Bet: Gary Boyd @ 85.0
