The Barclays Golf Tips: Scott Piercy

Scott Piercy Banking On Good Finish

Excellent putter and arrives in New Jersey at the top of his game. Vastly underrated by the bookmakers.

At a triple figure price, it will be jackpot time if Scott Piercy wins, but the omens are good for the 32-year-old from Las Vegas.

Ranked 80th in the Fed Ex Cup, Piercy left it late to make the playoffs but as a result comes into The Barclays as a player in form. His breakthrough came in Nevada at the Reno-Tahoe Open, where a course record 61 in the third round propelled him into contention.

It has been a productive summer for the big hitting American. His last four tournaments have yielded finishes of: T6-MC-1-T26, with that T26 coming at the PGA Championship.

As discussed in our trends piece, you need to be a good putter to succeed on the Donald Ross designed Plainfield course. Ranked 11th on tour for strokes gained putting, Piercy excels with the flat stick.

It is surprising Piercy is such an unknown golfer as his stats back up his excellent season. His ranks 41st for total driving, 47th for scoring average and 50th in the all- around ranking. He has a win under his belt and quite simply is much better than a 140/1 golfer.

Last year he finished T8 at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield CC, a Ross designed course. He is much improved since then and has a game that should be suited to Plainfield CC. Back him each way for ¼ the odds for a top five finish.
