Texas Open Tips: Kevin Streelman

Would have finished second last year but for a shaky nine holes. Arrives in much better form.

After a T17 at the RBC Heritage last week, Kevin Streelman arrives in San Antonio on a good run of form. He has shot under par in 8 of his last 10 rounds and finished T10 at the Transitions Championship only a month ago.

He returns to the Valero Texas Open looking to improve on a good T15 last year and he certainly has the game to suit. He ranks 32nd for total driving, 37th for GIRs and 19th for proximity to the hole; his game from tee to green is rock solid this year.

This is good news considering TPC San Antonio is tough, with fairways and greens amongst the hardest to hit on tour. Streelman knows about the challenges having played the first 7 holes of his second round in +6 last year. It is to his credit that he battled back to eventually finish T15. If he had played that front nine in level par he would have finished second.

I don’t expect Streelman to make the same mistake. At Transitions he was second in the field for bogey avoidance and that consistency should see him go very close in Texas. At 45/1 (William Hill) he is a cracking each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
