Texas Open Tips: Phil Mickelson
Made a mess of the Masters but still leads the tour in adjusted scoring average.
Phil Mickelson isn’t a regular at the Valero Texas Open but I suspect her turns up a frustrated man. He went into the Masters in good form and having got it to -1 early on Friday, threw away his chances and missed the cut.
Perhaps it was a case of pressing too early in tough conditions but it must have been a huge disappointment given his record at Augusta.
After a week off, Mickelson is back and if we look at the big picture this is still a man who leads the PGA Tour in adjusting scoring average.
In nine starts this season, Mickelson has registered six top-20s but is yet to win. There is the worry he finds it difficult to close out tournaments nowadays but at 25/1 (Paddy Power; 1/5 odds) we can still profit from a top-7 finish.
