Presidents Cup Tips: Tiger Woods

Perfect in 2009

Has the best record in the field and showed glimpses of a return to form last week. Joint top scorer in last year’s Ryder Cup when his golf was much worse.

It has been another year to forget for Tiger Woods but he can end it on a high by finishing as the top American points scorer at the generous odds of 7/1 with Betfred. A third place finish at the Australian Open was a good warm up for the event, with a poor third round the only blemish on an otherwise productive week.

The argument of whether he can regain former glories still rages, but for the purpose of this bet it is superfluous. In 2009 he finished the event with a perfect record, with five wins from five. Then, beset by injury and scandal, Woods still managed to finish joint top scorer at the 2010 Ryder Cup. He forged a strong partnership with Steve Stricker; one you must assume will be revived in Melbourne.

The consistency of old might not quite be there but in match-play the odd erratic moment isn’t terminal. Considering he used to be this price to win four-day tournaments, the 7/1 (Betfred) to finish ahead of eleven teammates seems generous.
