Accuracy Pays Off For Baker

Panama Claro Championship Tips: Chris Baker

Chris Baker bagged a couple of top five finishes in the second half of 2015 and tee-to-green he’s amongst the best on tour.

Last season Panama Golf Club proved to be one of the toughest tracks on the Web.com tour. Only 20 players finished the tournament under-par and there were plenty of disasters. Combine firm and fast conditions with a strong wind and you have problems; if you cannot control you golf ball you are in trouble.

That shouldn’t be an issue for Chris Baker who finished this season ranked 8th in driving accuracy (he was first in 2014).

The problem for the 29-year-old has been on the greens (123rd in putting average) where he continually loses strokes to the field but when the putter heats up he can compete.

He finished T3 at the Digital Ally Open in windy conditions and his results improved towards the end of 2015, sparked by his caddie lining up his putts.

Four starts back he finished fourth in the Aberto do Brasil on the LatinoAmerica tour and should be able to draw confidence from that result.

His best finish at the Panama Claro is a T47 in 2014 but he has the potential to improve and at 250/1 (Stan James) is a great each-way bet.
