Drewitt Can Make His Mark

Panama Claro Championship Tips: Brett Drewitt

Brett Drewitt finished T34 last year and it wasn’t long ago that he was tearing it up on the PGA Tour China.

The opening tournament of the Web.com season is one of the toughest challenges players face all year and the ability to play in windy conditions could prove vital. Brett Drewitt grew up playing in the wind in Australia and a firm course won’t phase him either.

The 25-year-old’s strength is tee-to-green; he ranked 14th for total driving last season and 10th for ball striking.

Unfortunately, his good play didn’t translate into results because of his putter but there is less pressure to shoot a low score in Panama; it is more important just to hang in there.

We must not forget that a couple years ago Drewitt looked a potential star. He finished third on the Order of Merit of the PGA Tour China and didn’t miss a single cut during the entire 2014 calendar year. In 14 starts, he registered 8 top-10 finishes including a win at the Wuhan Open.

He was unable to repeat those exploits in 2015 but sometimes it takes players a season to acclimatise to new surroundings and the more competitive Web.com tour.

A T21 at Q-School shows the ability is still there and he looks a lively outsider at 300/1 (Coral).
