Lyoness Open Tips: Victor Riu

Has struggled on the greens this year but finished T26 in 2012 and has won on the Challenge Tour.

Positioned a week before the US Open, the line-up for the Lyoness Open isn’t exactly stellar but it is the type of tournament that could be won by a long-shot; therefore i’m including Victor Riu in my staking plan.

The Frenchman enjoyed a terrific 2013 on the Challenge Tour, finishing 11th on the money list and winning over the border in Switzerland.

After five years on the second-tier, it has taken a while for Riu to adjust to the European Tour. He has just one top-25 but he’s a player with more ability than results suggest.

The 29-year-old is solid tee to green but is often let down by the flat stick and ranks 197th in putts per round.

It is difficult to predict when he will turn things around on the greens but it could come at the Lyoness Open, a course he’s played well before.

Riu finished T26 at Diamond CC in 2012 and the confidence gained by returning to familiar greens might spark a revival in his putting.

At 300/1 (Bet365) all we need is a glimmer of hope and we have enough reasons to get involved at the current odds.
