John Deere Classic Golf Tips: Steve Stricker

Stricker: Birdie Machine

The standout player in the field. He looks unstoppable in his bid to complete the hat-trick of wins.

Already a winner for Betting Bias this year, we are backing Steve Stricker for more of the same. One of the shorter hitters on tour, the world number five enjoys considerable success at courses which don’t demand length off the tee.

If you examine his last seven winnings scores on tour, you see an obvious pattern: -16,-16,-26,-17,-20,-17,-16. All incredibly low, even by PGA Tour standards. Easy courses, where making birdies is decisive, tend to suit him.

TPC at Deere Run is ideal; the average winning score for the past 10 years is -18.8. Bidding for a hat-trick at the venue, it is no surprise Stricker is happy to play in the US whilst his compatriots prepare for the Open.

After an opening round of 60, Stricker cruised to a two shot win in 2010. At the same time he posted a record tournament low of 26 under par. Ranking number one for par breakers and third for putting on tour, he has the ideal attributes to his game.
