The Memorial Tournament: Steve Stricker

Steve Stricker

Hasn’t been seen for a couple of weeks which have pushed his odds out unnecessarily. A proven winner on tour.

With the general malaise that has affected Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods in the last couple of years there has been no more consistent golfer in the US than Steve Stricker. Approaching veteran status at the age of 44, the world number eight golfer has improved with age. In the last two seasons he has won five tournaments; he is a player who knows how to get the job done.

It hasn’t been a stellar 2011 by Stricker’s high standards but seven top-25 finishes from nine events suggest there isn’t a lot wrong with his game. Last seen at the Players Championship, he was in contention until a quiet weekend saw him drop down to 12th. It was still an encouraging performance and, arriving fresher than most, he can make a mockery of his 28/1 quote.

I recommend the each-way play for such a consistent golfer, with the bookmakers paying ¼ odds for a top five finish.
