DAP Championship Tips: Kelly Kraft
The best of those dropping down in grade from the PGA Tour, was 80th in the tour’s all-around ranking.
The DAP Championship heralds the start of the Web.com Tour Finals, four events in five weeks where the top-25 in the money list gain PGA Tour cards.
Cantebury Golf Club hosts for the first time on the Web.com Tour but it is a venue steeped in history. It has played home to the US Open, US PGA, US Amateur and both Seniors’ majors during its lifetime. A tough course, with a classic layout it should provide a stern examination.
At this stage of the season those ranked 126th to 200th on the FedEx Cup drop down a level in a bid to retain their playing status and that’s where my analysis starts.
Of those dropping down in grade, Kelly Kraft is rated highest in the PGA Tour’s all-around ranking (80th) and is arguably unfortunate to find himself in this position. The 27-year-old made plenty of cuts (12/20) in his debut season on the PGA Tour but got going too late with a T5 at the John Deere Classic coming on his penultimate start.
A drop down in grade isn’t a total shock and Kraft understands what it takes to win on the Web.com having scored at the Louisiana Open last season.
Ranked 60th for GIRs and strokes gained putting, he should be shorter than his 80/1 quote with Coral.
