DAP Championship Tips: Tim Wilkinson

DAP Championship Tips: Tim Wilkinson

Favoured by a shorter, strategic course. Ranked 61st in adjusted scoring average on the PGA Tour.

Tim Wilkinson is yet to taste success in 312 professional starts but the New Zealander has shown glimpses of his ability this season.

Earlier in the year he strung together six cuts, comprising four top-30s and a T4 finish. That was enough for me to back him at the St Jude Classic and although he missed the cut he remained on my radar.

The 38-year-old falls into the ‘steady’ rather than ‘spectacular’ category but that might be what’s needed around the classic layout of Canterbury GC.

Wilkinson finished the regular season ranked inside the top-40 on tour for strokes gained in approach to the green, around the greens and putting. Unfortunately, his lack of length hampered him in several tournament and he missed a tour card by seven places.

Nevertheless, he has the game to thrive on a strategic track and a T22 in his last start should see him begin the Finals with confidence in his game. He is a touch big at 100/1 (Coral)
