Canadian Open Golf Tips: Matt Kuchar

Matt Kuchar Should Be Favourite

Fourth in Canada last year and T14 when last played at Shaughnessy. Has 8 top tens from 16 events this year.

Back to familiar territory, Matt Kuchar can continue his sparkling season on the PGA Tour. A missed cut at the British Open was disappointing, but he wasn’t the only big name to struggle at Sandwich.

His record on tour in 2011 has been extremely consistent. He has finished in the top ten in 50% of his tournaments. A winner in each of his last two seasons, it is only a matter of time before he scores again.

The Canadian Open presents an excellent opportunity. With several players taking a week off after the British Open, the field isn’t the strongest. Last year Kuchar finished T4 and crucially he has course experience with a T14 in 2005 when the Canadian Open was last staged at Shaughnessy Golf Club.

The tricky course will suit the American’s game. He finished T6 at the Byron Nelson and T14 at the US Open, two of the toughest courses on the schedule.

Third on the all-around ranking and sixth for adjusted scoring average, Kuchar should be a strong favourite. Lying second in the betting he looks overpriced. Back him each way and get ¼ odds for a top five finish.
