Open Championship Tips: Marc Leishman

Finished T5-T2 in the last two Opens and was going well for long periods at Oakmont before ending up T18.

Marc Leishman gave us a good run for our money at the US Open and he retains his place as the headline tip for the third major of the season.

The 32-year-old is quietly compiling an impressive record in majors none more so than at the Open. Last year he lost in a playoff at St. Andrews, his second straight top-5 finish.

Since the start of 2013 his record in majors reads: played 12, cuts made 6, top-twenties 5. Wining tournaments was an issue but Leishman rounded off 2015 with victory at the Nedbank Challenge and hopefully he hasn’t forgotten how to get over the line.

Leishman has gone quiet since his T18 finish at Oakmont but you suspect he is timing his run for the Open and US PGA, which fall in quick succession.

There has been plenty to like about his play on the PGA Tour this season. He sits 25th in the all-around ranking but prior to Firestone was firmly inside the top-20. At 80/1 (Paddy Power) he is a cracking each-way bet with 1/5 odds for a top-8 finish.
