BMW Masters Trends

The lucrative Final Series gets underway in Shanghai and the big purse has attracted some of Europe’s best.

The $7,000,000 prize fund at BMW Masters has caught the eye of Europe’s elite with the likes of Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald all in the field this week.

Lake Malaren Golf Club hosts the event for a third year but having started life as a 30-player invitational it is now a European Tour sanctioned event, with the field expanded to 78 players.

Rory McIlory won in 2011 with Peter Hanson taking the title in 2012, which means there is some data to build a trend although it might not be entirely reliable.

Top-60 for scoring average
Last season the players with the eight highest world rankings finished in the top-15. The cream rises to the top and scoring average is often the best indicator of all round ability.

Top-60 in putts per GIR
Peter Hanson and Rory McIlroy ranked inside the top-10 with putts per GIR during their victorious years.

Top-60 for GIRs
