Post Race Analysis: Canadian GP

Sebastian Vettel wasn’t faultless but no one got near enough to challenge him in Canada. However, there were a couple of notable performances further down the field.

With so many different race strategies, we have analysed lap times to get a better picture of the raw pace of each car. We have compared the best lap time for each driver when on the same tyre compound and broken down the race into ‘stints’ to compare cars on similar fuel loads.

Stint 1

Sebastian Vettel asserted his grip on the race from the very start, whilst Mercedes again showed good pace on the super soft tyres.

Valtteri Bottas’s third place in qualifying was largely down to the drying track but he also displayed decent race pace. In the second stint he was considerably quicker than his teammate and both the Saubers and he wasn’t that far behind the McLaren of Sergio Perez. The Finn is yet to finish in the points but he is getting close.

Sebastian Vettel didn’t deliver his customary fastest lap, although his post-race comments suggest he tried. Instead the fastest lap went to Mark Webber, considering he was racing with a damaged car it was a good performance.
