Spain v Chile Tip: Champions To Bounce Back?

Although Spain rightly attracted all the worst headlines, Chile were actually far from convincing 3-1 victors over Australia.

Chile adopted a cavalier approach against Australia which saw them run out 3-1 winners but the general perception was that they very nearly slipped up. Having established a 2-0 lead after 14 minutes they should have been cruising, but after Tim Cahill grabbed a goal the Socceroos pushed hard for an equaliser before a late sucker punch.

If Australia could enjoy more shots on goal (13) than Chile (10) then the South Americans should really fear the wounded animal that is Spain. The defending champions grabbed all the negative headlines after getting destroyed 5-1 by the Netherlands, but I’m going to assume that a bad 45 minutes doesn’t mean they are finished as a team.

Vicente del Bosque’s boys still have a multitude of top players at the ‘right age’ and they bounced back from an opening game defeat in 2010 to go all the way. I’m not saying they will repeat that feat but they can take the points at the Maracana.

Jorge Sampaoli is determined to send his Chilean team out to attack and I could see the likes of Sanchez and Vidal having good moments again. Therefore I’m taking Spain to win but with both teams to score at best odds of 2/1 with WilliamHill.

*Update: Spain can now be picked up at a best price of 11/5 (Ladbrokes) to win with both teams to score.
