Honduras v Ecuador Tip: Bad Day For This Suarez

Current Honduras coach Luis Fernando Suarez may wish he was still in charge of Ecuador as he was for the 2006 World Cup.

They may have both lost their opening Group E matches, but the contrast between the performances could hardly have been more startling.

Ecuador were a whisker away from snatching a 2-1 victory against Switzerland after they were denied an injury-time winner only to see their opponents break down the other end and take the spoils themselves. It was a pulsating encounter in which the South Americans fully played their part.

In contrast, Honduras were steamrollered by the French and the writing appeared to be on the wall even before Wilson Palacios was sent off. His team only enjoyed 29% of the possession and could easily have lost by more than 3-0. The Central Americans will miss the suspended Stoke City player against their rivals.

The simple fact is that Ecuador look like much the better team and it’s not a massive surprise to see them nothing longer than 7/10 (Bet365) for the victory. But we can improve our selection by taking the win with Enner Valencia to score - the double is a best price 23/10 with Paddy Power.

The 25-year-old has found the net in each of his last five international appearances and may just have usurped Felipe Caicedo as Ecuador’s primary threat.
