Wolves v Swansea Football Tip

O'Hara in happier times

Wolves are in the doldrums lately, but the Swans can be the perfect visitors to arrest a slump.

Six weeks ago it would have been unthinkable that Wolves would have been odds against to win at home to Swansea. In early September Mick McCarthy’s side were flying high with seven points from their first three league matches. Five defeats on the bounce later, and people are even starting to whisper doubts about the manager’s future.

The big question is where has it all gone wrong? There has been some wretched luck when the side still played well, but at times poor results affected morale and performances got worse too. But there are still plenty of grounds for optimism. Wolves matched WBA for long periods in the last match and the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle was simply a consequence of dubious refereeing.

Swansea really haven’t got to grips with how to play away from home at this level yet. Four games played, four defeats with 12 goals conceded and only 2 scored are testament to that. Another statistic suggests that the Welsh side have actually ridden their luck at times this season as well; Brendan Rodgers’ side have had their woodwork rattled nine times, more than any other team. Compare this with the fact that Wolves have only converted 6% of their shots on goal this season - the worst in the division.

This tells me that McCarthy’s side are creating chances but just not putting them away. That’s a sign of low confidence, but also an indication that things are likely to improve pretty soon. If the hosts get their noses in front at Molineux it’s possible that the floodgates will open. No doubt McCarthy would settle for a scrappy 1-0 win at this stage however! I think this is the day for Wolves to turn the corner and I suggest backing them at best odds of 11/10 with WilliamHill.
