Tottenham v Liverpool

Adebayor returns to North London

Redknapp's new striker has a habit of starting like a train at new clubs.

In the first goalscorer market it’s hard to look past the new Spurs favourite who has made a habit of starting well at all his different English clubs. Emmanuel Adebayor is 7/1 with Ladbrokes to break the deadlock in Sunday’s first heavyweight tussle, and he has plenty of previous.

The Togolese star made an immediate impact at Arsenal where he scored on his debut against Birmingham and went on to claim four in his first 10 matches at the end of the 2005-06 season. But when he headed north in 2009 his early form for Manchester City was even more impressive. Another goal in his first match against Blackburn was swiftly followed by a home debut strike against Wolves. He went on to become one of only six players who have scored in their first four games for a new club.

History has every chance of repeating itself at White Hart Lane. Adebayor pounced to score on yet another debut at Molineux last week. He will now be eager to impress his new fans in a big match against Champions League rivals. Liverpool have started pretty well but they have looked vulnerable in conceding to Sunderland, Bolton and Stoke already. That last opponent took the points last time out as the Reds laboured against the physical Potters. Adebayor provides a similarly muscular challenge, and he looks a great bet to open the scoring at 7/1.
