The Championship: Latest Odds

Promotion prospects look good for Big Sam

The Hammers have finally claimed top spot after winning again before the Saints slipped up.

It may prove a pivotal moment in the race to reach the Premier League with long-time Championship leaders Southampton stumbling on Monday night. The Saints lost 2-0 at home to Leicester City to drift out to 9/2 (StanJames) for the title; they had been as short as 13/8 at the start of January.

West Ham are now evens (Coral) to finish as champions having opened up a three-point lead at the top. Sam Allardyce’s side beat Nott’m Forest 2-1 on Saturday to make it three wins on the spin in the league.

But there remain a whole host of clubs who won’t have given up on automatic promotion as the pack continues to stay bunched. Cardiff City are 6/1 (Ladbrokes) for the title, now just one point behind Southampton in third. Middlesbrough (18/1 Bet365) are a further four points back in fourth, ahead of Hull City (25/1 PaddyPower) courtesy of goals scored but level on 45 points apiece.
