Real Madrid v Manchester United : Odds and Analysis

The tie of the round sees Ronaldo return to where he made his name, but first United head to the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid:

To win home leg: 4/6 PaddyPower
To progress: 4/6 Betfred
To win Champions League: 5/1 StanJames

Group Stages: W3 D2 L1 Pts 11
Current La Liga position: 3rd
League form: WLWWDW

Verdict: Real emerged from a ferocious qualifying group intact but not without looking second best to Dortmund who took 4 points off Los Blancos. They’re not even second best domestically at the moment with local rivals Atletico 4 points ahead and Barcelona disappearing over the horizon with a 16-point advantage. But all would be forgiven if Mourinho delivered the Champions League.

Manchester United:

To win away leg: 9/2 Bet365
To progress: 6/4 Coral
To win Champions League: 14/1 Coral

Group Stages:  W4 D0 L2 Pts 12
Current Premier League position: 1st
League form: WWWDWW

Verdict: Qualification for the last 16 was easier than the bare statistics suggest given that the 2 defeats came at the end when it didn’t matter. Van Persie has turned United into a clinical machine in the Premier League where they sit an imposing 12 points clear at the top after 21 wins in 26 outings. Real can only dream of such domestic heights this season.
