Real Madrid v Man Utd Tip

The English league leaders aren't given much hope which has created value in the anytime goalscorer market.

Perceived wisdom, and the odds, suggest that Man United barely have a prayer as they head to the Bernabeu on Wednesday evening. The Red Devils are 9/2 (Coral) shots to win their away leg and perhaps even Sir Alex Ferguson would accept that there’s more raw talent in the hosts’ squad.

However, based on results this season, United really should fancy their chances. The English league leaders have won a remarkable 21 of 26 top flight games in 2012-13 and progressed through the group stages of the Champions League with something to spare.

Contrast that with Real Madrid who are languishing down in third in La Liga and who had some nervy moments before finishing behind Dortmund in the groups. So, with the odds skewed against them, value surely comes in backing United in some capacity.

The standout bet looks like Wayne Rooney to score anytime at best odds of 10/3 with WilliamHill. The England striker has been resurgent since December having racked up 11 goals in his last 12 outings in all competitions for club and country.

The 27-year-old remains every bit the big game player. He scored two away to Manchester City in the last big local derby and this time last week he found the net against Brazil. At these odds, he’s a bargain to score in Spain.
