Reading Odds 2012-13

Reading had a glorious charge to promotion.

The champions of the Championship are back in the top flight for the first time since 2008. Predictions of going straight back down were inevitable.

Best Title Odds: 8000/1 (Coral)

Value Bet: 10/3 (BetVictor) - Under 4 goals conceded in September.

The meanest defence in the Championship has made further reinforcements at the back. They only play three times in September, twice at home, so this bet is eminently winnable.

Summary:

The headline purchase was Pavel Pogrebnyak from under the noses of Fulham. The Russian started like a train at Craven Cottage and the Royals are praying for a repeat performance. McDermott has stuck to what he knows to some extent by snapping up second tier players like Chris Gunter from Forest and Adrian Mariappa from Watford.

Verdict:

They may keep more clean sheets than most promoted teams, particularly at home - think Swansea last term. I do wonder if we’ve already seen the best of Pogrebnyak in England already though; the goals were already starting to dry up a bit at Fulham. At 8/1 (BetVictor), one of last year’s impact heroes Jason Roberts could be a great shout to top score in the league for Reading.
