QPR v Derby

The Championship is hotting up.

QPR are on the verge of promotion. Tension will be high at Loftus Road.

QPR are so close to returning to the top flight that they can almost reach out and touch it. A win against Derby on Monday night and a subsequent failure by Norwich to take three points on Thursday would see the Hoops up. It really is that close. However, as much as promotion appears to be in the bag, you can be sure there will be a few nerves around Loftus Road, especially if the home side can’t break the deadlock early on. I think Warnock’s side will do the job, but it may be a 1-0 nerve-jangler. The odds on that are 6/1 with SkyBet.

Derby have much reason to spoil the party. They aren’t completely safe from dropping out of the Championship at the wrong end, so still need the points. Add to that incentive some much needed confidence, gleaned from the 2-1 defeat of Leeds last time out. But the Rams haven’t won away from Pride Park for a while and face a side with a formidable 23 clean sheets to their name already this season. Expect Clough’s side to hang in there for periods, but ultimately not have enough to de-rail the promotion juggernaut. The last time QPR won this fixture at home was in September 1982 - the season the R’s last won promotion to the top division. Call it fate, it may come late, but 1-0 to a nervy Rangers has value at 6/1.
