QPR Show Improvement In Defeat

We examine the stats to see if the scorelines were a fair reflection of the Boxing Day action.

Using the criteria set out in our ‘Shots On Target’ feature, each week we will analyse the recent set of Premier League fixtures to see if the scorelines were a fair reflection of the games. Using ‘shots on target’ rather than goals as out key metric, we hope to discover matches that didn’t produce a ‘fair’ scoreline given the balance of play.

QPR about to turn corner
QPR might be bottom of the league but their performances are cause for optimism. Against Newcastle they defended well enough to earn at least a point, whilst they were slightly unlucky to lose at home to West Brom on Boxing Day, having more shots on target than their opponents. Harry Redknapp’s men look overpriced at 16/5 (BetVictor) to beat an inconsistent Liverpool side.

Newcastle up for the fight
Newcastle surprised Man Utd on Boxing Day by taking the game to the league leaders. Alan Pardew’s men registered 7 shots on target, of the other 17 Premier League sides in action only Tottenham managed more. If the Magpies continue in the same vein they can cause Arsenal problems at the Emirates and are 7/1 (BetVictor) to register an away win.
