Kenny Dalglish has been sacked after a disappointing eighth place finish in the Premier League, despite ending the club’s trophy drought in the Carling Cup.
Roberto Martinez is the frontrunner to take the reigns at Anfield at a best price of 11/4 with PaddyPower. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan recently said of the 38-year-old: “He’s going to go to one top club, that’s for sure, and I will back him when that time comes,” he told Sky Sports. This was before Dalglish was shown the door.
The job vacancy on Merseyside could be bad news for Aston Villa who also appeared to be keen on securing the Spaniard’s services. The Latics manager has drifted to 6/1 (Betfred) to take that post.
Liverpool may alternatively turn to another former boss to replace Dalglish with the available Rafa Benitez priced at 11/2 (Bet365) for a comeback.
There seems to be money coming hard and fast on Brendan Rodgers with the Swansea chief now a best price 8/1 with Boylesports. There’s a similar trend with Andre Villas-Boas; the former Chelsea manager is into 8/1 with StanJames while Fabio Capello has been cut to nothing longer than 16/1 (bodog).
