MK Dons v Sheffield Wednesday Tip

The Owls seem to relax away from Hillsborough these days while the Dons have been tepid at home.

After MK Dons impressed at Hillsborough 10 days ago, the bookies are convinced that they will finish the job tonight at best odds of 11/8 (Coral). That certainly wouldn’t be a major shock, but at the optimal price of 23/10 (BetVictor), Sheffield Wednesday have a good chance to prove why they still ply their trade at a higher level on the league ladder.

Although the gap between the lower reaches of the Championship and the upper echelons of League One are probably minimal, what interests me here is the emphasis put on home advantage. Tonight’s hosts haven’t actually won at Stadium MK in their last three outings; lowly Bury claimed a point on Saturday while mid-table Coventry and Walsall took the spoils before that.

Let’s contrast that with the away form of Wednesday. The Owls’ 3-1 victory at high-flying Hull in front of the TV cameras at the weekend is the sort of a result than can turn a season around. Dave Jones’ boys have now clambered out of the relegation zone and it’s all down to recent success on the road.

There have also been wins at Bolton and Barnsley in the past four weeks as Wednesday have taken 10 points from a possible 12 away from Sheffield. That ranks up there with the best and makes the longish odds on them progressing to the fourth round look like a mistake.
