Jermain Defoe is enjoying one of his best ever starts to a season with 6 goals for club and country in just 9 appearances. As always, the bookies are quick to dismiss visitors to Old Trafford, but the 29-year-old must rate as cracking value to find the net anytime at a best price of 10/3 with Betfred.
The former Pompey striker has been quick to make himself almost indispensable to new Spurs boss AVB. Admittedly, his first goal of the campaign at Newcastle ultimately didn’t count for much, but the subsequent strikes at Reading (2) and at home to QPR were priceless game-settlers.
Defoe has also been a thorn in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side before. Way back in 2001-02 he scored the only goal at Old Trafford as West Ham recorded a famous victory. In 2008-09 he fired in an overhead kick after just 38 seconds against United. The diminutive forward even bagged a consolation as recently as March against the then champions.
With 31 attempts on goal already in 2012-13, Defoe will be sure to give an unsettled defence the runaround on Saturday and he rates as an excellent value bet.
