Man Utd v Norwich Tip

The Canaries have held their own against United every time they have met since returning to the top flight last season.

Not surprisingly, the bookies don’t give Norwich (11/1 StanJames) a prayer at Old Trafford on Saturday with the champions-elect just 1/3 (Bet365) to make it a remarkable 23 wins from 28 league games. But I suspect the Canaries will make United fight hard for the points - the 1-0 home win looks a sound bet at best odds of 15/2 with BetVictor.

It’s easy to forget that Norwich were the last team to inflict a domestic defeat on the Red Devils when they triumphed 1-0 at Carrow Road back in November. They also held their own in 2011-12. They lost 2-0 at Old Trafford last term but only after holding United for 68 minutes and causing a fair few scares. Until Danny Welbeck settled matters with an 87th minute goal, the outcome was in doubt.

Chris Hughton has got his defence holding firm again right now after a run of just one goal conceded in the last three outings. Fergie’s high-flyers, for their part, are still performing their usual trick of doing just enough to win most games. Recent home matches have seen Reading beaten 2-1, Southampton 2-1 and West Ham 1-0; the pattern for slender, but relentless victories is well set.
