Liverpool v Tottenham Tip

Bale: 14 goals for club and country this season

Spurs always score. And their Welsh wonder is more likely than most.

Monday night’s big game looks a tough one to call where a case can be made for all three outcomes. Liverpool (23/20 Ladbrokes) have been revitalised by recent Cup exploits against both Manchester sides and a convincing league win at Wolves. The return of Luis Suarez from a lenghty ban will also be warmly received at Anfield. But Tottenham won the return fixture 4-0 at White Hart Lane which makes 13/5 (Boylesports) on the away win look tempting. Those stuck between the two may settle on the draw at 12/5 (Skybet).

But that all feels far too speculative for short odds when a goalscorer bet may provide better value. Spurs have scored in their last 22 league outings; that’s the longest run by any club within a single season since 2007-08. They line up as underdogs at Anfield and therefore all their danger men are at slighter longer odds than their counterparts.

With three goals in his last two appearances, Gareth Bale looks a bargain at 7/2 (StanJames) in the anytime goalscorer market. The reigning PFA Player of the Year has 10 league strikes to his name already this campaign and is as likely to find the net as any of the out-and-out strikers on the pitch.

The 22-year-old showed he’s a man for the big occasion at the San Siro last season and scored a blinder at the Emirates only a fortnight ago. Anfield is the sort of the venue where the Welsh star is liable to leave his mark.
